The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D Wattles, published in 1910 is still popular today almost a century later. In essence this book's purpose is to outline a method, based on conclusions of science that will ensure those who practice it effectively, will succeed and get rich.
This book includes many of the key components of programs used today, such as visualizing, manifesting our goals, gratitude and faith. In fact this book inspired Rhonda Byrne to write the successful book The Secret. To me, there are no better criteria to judge a book than how it has been used, adopted and applied by those who read it.
Wattles focuses on thinking and acting in a certain way, despite the fact it may not agree with appearances around you. This focus on creative thought, vision, gratitude, faith and maintaining purpose with expectation combines powerfully with action. The book suggests that if followed, getting rich is certain.
The Science of Getting Rich has made its mark in the world of self-help and success books. It is less than 100 pages packed with the essentials for wealth and happiness. Compared to other books of this type that I have read, it is the most concise, yet is complete and lends itself to be a handy reference manual to be reviewed often.
One area I am not in agreement with is the author's suggestion that this book should be studied exclusively until learned, ignoring all other books of this type while doing so. In light of the fact it was written almost a century ago, this may have been more realistic, but in today's world of instant information, not as convincing.
The bottom line: to use the author's terminology, this book has "use value" far greater than the cash value you surrender to acquire it.
